Design-Build Teams (DBT), Digital Thread, Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), and DO-178C/DO-254 compliance are not optional buzzwords—they are the vocabulary Boeing hiring managers use internally. A resume that says 'worked on aircraft components' instead of 'performed structural analysis on 737 MAX composite fuselage sections per Boeing Design Standards BDS-100' will be scored low regardless of the applicant's actual ability. Boeing receives 30,000+ applications monthly; the ATS filter is aggressive.
Engineering seniority at Boeing is measured in certification scope, not just years. A Level II engineer is expected to work independently within defined requirements. A Level III owns the technical baseline for a system and interfaces with certification authorities (FAA, EASA). A Level IV provides technical oversight across multiple programs and resolves complex trade-space decisions. Your resume must demonstrate not just what you did, but the scope of your technical authority—how many pounds of structure you were responsible for, which airworthiness regulations you worked under, and whether you signed off on engineering dispositions.
Security clearance is a hidden filter at Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) that eliminates uncleared candidates for a significant percentage of roles. If you hold a clearance, lead with it in your contact header. If you are clearance-eligible (US citizen with no disqualifying factors), say so explicitly—'Clearance Eligible (US Citizen).' Boeing invests significantly in clearance processing for the right candidates, and many hiring managers will advance an uncleared candidate who flags eligibility. Do not bury this information or omit it assuming they will ask.

✗ 'Engineering reports' is too vague. At Boeing and Spirit, the report type (SAR, MDR, DER package) matters. Firstsubmission approval is a quality metric that stands out.
✗ 'Learned to use' is a student's phrase on a professional resume. Frame training as completed certification with hours, tools, and timetoindependentcontribution.
✗ Hobbies waste space on an engineering resume. A Private Pilot License is actually relevantmove it to certifications. Replace the rest with Boeingspecific technical training or professional society memberships.
