What Hardware Teams and Engineering Managers Screen for in Hardware Engineering Resumes
Hardware engineering resumes require a level of technical specificity that software resumes do not. Hiring managers need to see the exact technologies you have worked with: specific FPGA families (Xilinx Zynq, Intel Agilex), PCB design tools (Altium, Cadence Allegro), communication protocols (SPI, I2C, PCIe, USB), and testing equipment (oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, logic analyzers). Vague descriptions like 'designed electronic circuits' tell hiring managers nothing useful.
Product lifecycle experience is the differentiator that separates senior candidates from junior ones. Managers want to see that you have taken a design from concept through schematic capture, layout, prototype, validation, and into mass production. If you have managed a design through DFM (Design for Manufacturing) reviews, navigated supply chain constraints, or resolved issues discovered during production testing, those are the stories your resume must tell.
