levels.fyi normalizes Boeing engineering to L1 through L6, and candidates have adopted that shorthand (for example, “what is an L4 at Boeing”). But L1 to L6 are levels.fyi's own normalization, not an official Boeing grade map. Boeing does not publish a public grade-to-title map; the ladder loosely tracks the SPEEA Professional-unit levels, but there is no official public code map. The crowdsourced source is levels.fyi.
The defining structural difference from big tech is the pay shape: Boeing engineering comp is base salary plus a modest bonus with essentially zero equity. levels.fyi shows $0 to a few hundred dollars of stock at nearly every level. Lead with that, because a total-compensation figure borrowed from a big-tech ladder will badly misprice a Boeing offer.
One practical note that makes Boeing unique: most Puget Sound engineers are represented by SPEEA (IFPTE Local 2001), which negotiates salary floors, not ceilings. Non-represented Boeing sites use the company's internal non-union leveling. The SPEEA section below covers the floors in detail.
Every comp figure on this page is levels.fyi crowdsourced data accessed July 2026, not an official Boeing number. Treat each one as a community estimate that varies by site, business, and clearance, and cite levels.fyi by name and date on any resume or in a negotiation.
