If your resume does not include your team's quota attainment percentage, deal size metrics, pipeline growth, and revenue results, it will not advance past the initial screen. 'Managed a team of 10 sales representatives' describes a structure. 'Led a 10-person team to 127% of $8.5M annual quota, with 8 of 10 reps at or above target' describes a result.

The transition from individual contributor to sales manager is the most scrutinized career pivot in sales hiring. VPs want evidence that you can develop others, not just sell yourself. Ramp time for new hires, rep promotion rates, coaching cadence, and team retention metrics demonstrate management capability. If your resume only highlights your personal sales achievements without team development metrics, you are positioning yourself as a senior AE, not a manager.

Sales methodology and CRM fluency are table stakes in 2026. Whether your team runs MEDDPICC, Sandler, Challenger, or SPIN, your resume should name the methodology and demonstrate how you enforced it through pipeline reviews and deal coaching. CRM proficiency (Salesforce, HubSpot, Gong, Clari) should include how you used data for forecasting accuracy and pipeline management, not just that you 'maintained CRM records.'
